The rest of the week

The rest of the week

Wednesday was a big day. After several bad barbeque fiascoes, i was going to get the real deal. and it was going to be good.

Mary and i had plans to meet up w/ some friends and to go to Rudy's BBQ, and then go to the Broken Spoke for the 41st b-day party.

Rudy's was good. so soo good. i stuffed my face on lean brisket and turkey. and some pickles.
have i mentioned it was good? rudy's has quickly become my fav. bbq spot.

after the grub we headed to the broken spoke.
it was pretty packed out.
our friends said they'd seen it more packed though.
i had not.

there were a ton of great artists scheduled to appear. unfortunately, of all those great ones, we only saw 1. it was still fun though. we drank up quite a few pitchers of Lone Star. thank goodness the brisket had lined my belly.

i'd been to the Spoke several times before. it's fun. (www.brokenspokeaustintx.com) a really old TX dancehall. it looks like it could collapse at any minute. the first time i ever went i ordered a lone star beer. it was like $3. too much. i asked how much pitchers were. waitress said $5.50. that was much better. i asked her what they had tap. "Busch". she said.
what else?
"Busch" she said.
i drank busch that night. for the first time since college. and i drank a lot of it. and i liked it.

as luck would have it, they actually have changed their one beer on tap, and it's now Lone Star.
and Lone Star is always good. it was $6.50 on wednesday night, but that's not too bad at all.

there were some characters out at the Spoke. this one game came in totally decked out. he had a bright pink suit coat, and his hair was slicked back, and he strutted around. turns out he was in one of the bands. but he wasn't the singer. he was the washboard player. and he thought he was a celebrity. he had sunglasses on, and he belted out every single song. but he didn't have a mic. i think he was the only person in the band who didn't have a mic.
poor guy.
he was way into it though.
and strutted around afterwards like he was the star.
maybe he was.
i don't know.

i bet you that way back in the day he was the lead singer of some group in high school or something. he's still clinging to the past.

i want to be a washboard player.

they put a cash bar in the back of the spoke. they called it the 'bus crash bar' b/c it was wear the Geezinslaws bus drove through the back of the club last month. there was a girl behind the bar who was honestly about 10. but she was decked out in makeup and had her hair all done up. she was also wearing a tight t-shirt which allowed her gut to hang out underneath. she definitely had the look downpat for a bartender.

i don't specifically remember what we did thursday. i know we hung out with some people and drank up a ton of gin.

then we went to san marcos for a concert. we were pretty tired, so we didn't stay long.
and then it was friday. and friday is when the party started.
